Young People
One of the main aims of the Government’s Drug Strategy is ‘to prevent today’s young people from becoming tomorrow’s problem drug users’. In addition, ‘encouraging young people to choose not to take illegal drugs’ is a key part of the Every Child Matters: Change for Children strategy.
County Durham DAAT works closely with partners in order to achieve these outcomes for children and young people. Developing services to prevent the harm caused by drug and alcohol use and ensure all children and young people have the opportunity to reach their full potential, particularly those most vulnerable and at risk.
A needs assessment for young people’s specialist substance misuse treatment is currently underway and it is anticipated that the first stage will be completed by the end of the calendar year. This will support the process of planning the young people’s specialist substance misuse treatment plan, which will build on and add to arrangements already in place for commissioning of broader children, young people and family services.
